In this video, we will unveil the secret to happiness. Boy do we have something powerful to share with you. The holy grail of self improvement. Who would have known how simple the secret to happiness is.
That’s right. We secret weapon is gratitude. Stick with me for a few minutes and you’ll understand how you can turn that frown upside down.
While we men often think women are the ones with mood swings, we also can get ourselves in a funk. We may have problems in our relationships, the kids are driving us crazy, or our job isn’t going as well as we would hope. I ask you to take a step back and try fighting the funk with gratitude. Here are some things you can do:
First, buy a journal or a notebook. Make this a gratitude journal.
When you wake up in the morning…ask yourself what is at least one thing that you are grateful for. Write down “I am grateful for..” If you can’t think of anything positive, realize you are breathing, you have a roof over your head, etc. I’m sure you can find something.
Stop complaining – Negative thoughts bring more negative thoughts. If it’s not something you can’t change or if it’s about someone else and you aren’t telling them directly, then keep it to yourself. If you are complainer, this one is going to be tough. But try.
If you have to use a rubber band to snap your wrist every time to remind yourself, do it.
Turn negative thoughts into positive: Like waiting in traffic could be an opportunity to call a friend, or listen to a book on audio.
At dinner, go around the table and say 2 positive things and something you are grateful for. Help the kids begin to think positively.
Before you go to sleep, repeat the practice from the morning and write down 3 things that were positive today or that you are grateful for. Even if they are small, go to sleep on a positive note.
I can tell you first hand that developing my gratitude muscle has positively effected me. I hope you can use these tips to fight the funk that creeps up in life.
